Evening Events

All evening events will be taking place at the AmericInn, except for Thursday where we will have the gallery opening and vendor preview at the Exhibition Hall of the Alliant Energy Center. There will be a separate room provided at the AmericInn in the evenings for people who just want to relax, hang on or do some felting.

Judy McDowell: Experience Kazakhstan

In 2009, Feltmaker Judy McDowell and Designer Laurie Jacobi were invited by the US State Department to travel to Kazakhstan to provide instruction in feltmaking and design to Kazak artisans. As part of the program titled "Revitilizing Crafts in Kazakhstan," Judy and Laurie taught workshops in two cities in this Central Asian country focusing on design principles, new felting techniques, and marketing of handcrafts. Sponsored by Chevron and the Eurasian Foundation, the purpose of this economic development program is to strengthen the work of artists throughout the country. This slide show will introduce you to the people, traditions and history of Kazakhstan as well as the importance of this work in women's lives.
